On May 31, We Raise NJ invited the New Jersey Department of Education to a focus group session as part of their statewide tour to hear from stakeholders about the future of the state assessment. Over 40 representatives of business, philanthropy, higher education, advocacy, and school districts joined our coalition in hearing from the NJDOE on their process to gather input from the public in shaping plans, and then sharing concerns and ideas about the best path forward.
Our coalition members gained valuable insight from all participants about what’s working and what can be improved in our assessment system. NJDOE officials also reported back that the focus group discussions were especially meaningful due to the cross-section of experiences and positions of the attendees.
We look forward to continuing our engagement with the NJDOE in the critical effort to provide the most effective and informative state test while abiding by our Assessment Principles.
